Rubino compiled a two-year pitching record of 17-10. He was 9-3 in Far Western Conference play with a 1.83 earned run average. Rubino pitched 214.1 innings and completed an amazing 22 games in 27 starts with 121 strikeouts. He was the number one pitcher for Cal State’s 1977 squad which captured the Far Western Conference with an impressive 16-2 record and came within one game of reaching the NCAA Division II World Series. During the 1977 season, Rubino compiled an earned run average of 1.85 and in conference was 5-1 with a 0.52 era. He earned All-Far Western Conference Pitcher of the Year.
