Pioneer Athletics Hall of Fame
McGuire arrived on the Hayward campus in 1978 and led the women’s track and field program to 11 Conference team titles while finishing in the runner-up position in three other years. He guided the Pioneers to one National Team Championship (AIAW Division III- 1981) and a top ten finish at the NCAA Track and Field Nationals six times. The Pioneers highest finish in the NCAA II Championships was a third place showing in 1983. Under McGuire, eight individual national championships and 91 All-Americans were produced. McGuire enjoyed equal success as the head coach of the women’s cross country program, as he guided the Pioneers to a pair of National AIAW Division III team titles in 1979 and 1980, captured three conference titles and was ranked in the NCAA Division II National “top- 20” in six of the seasons from 1982-1991.
