Cvecko was selected Most Valuable Player for the Cal State East Bay men’s water polo team in 1974 and 75 and four times was named All-Far Western Conference, earning first team recognition during his junior and senior campaigns. He earned All- American honors in 1975, helping that year’s team to the national championship in NCAA small college division. Cvecko was named tournament MVP for the 1975 NCAA Small College Championships. In 1972, Cvecko was the first athlete named to the all-conference team as a freshman for the Far-Western Conference. He was a four- year member of the Pioneer’s men’s swimming team and captain in 1976. Cvecko competed in the 1975 Division II Swimming Championships and held school records in 1000 and 1650 freestyle events.
