During each of Clark’s seven years as head tennis coach, the Pioneers captured the Far Western Conference championships while compiling an impressive FWC dual match record of 47-0. He was named Far Western Conference Coach of the Year each season. Under Clark, Cal State East Bay compiled an overall dual match record of 106-26. Nationally, Cal State East Bay’s tennis team had six Top 10 finishes in Division II, including a third place team showing in 1980. Seventeen CSUEB athletes received All-American recognition under Clark. In 1982, he was named Intercollegiate Tennis Coaches Association Coach of the Year. Prior to his coaching duties at Cal State East Bay, Clark played baseball and basketball for the Pioneers. After completing his masters in Physical Education at CSUEB in 1970, Clark was hired as the assistant baseball coach in 1971. He began teaching fulltime at the University, in the Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education. Clark became the Department chair for Kinesiology and Physical Education, then associate dean for the college of Education and Allied Studies, deputy provost, and then interim provost at Cal State East Bay.
