Stanley Cherry was the Far Western Conference Player of the Year in 1974-75 as a member of the Pioneer men’s basketball team. He was a two-time Northern California College Division Player of the Year, National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-American and a UPI All-Pacific Coast Honorable Mention in consecutive seasons in 1973-74 as well as 1974-75. 

In addition, Cherry was selected Far West Conference Player of the Year in 1974-75, a two-time All-Far Western Conference First-Team selection, a two-time winner of the FWC Sportsmanship Award (1974 and 1975). He led the conference in scoring (21 ppg) a rebounding (12.7 rpg) for two-consecutive seasons. and averaged a double-double for his collegiate career.

Cherry is the Pioneer record holder in career rebounding (1092), rebounds in a season (321), and is second in career scoring (1,397). He played one season in the Philippine Basketball Association in 1975. “Stan has worked hard to become one of the best basketball players in Cal State Hayward history,” said Pioneer Head Coach Jon Staggers.
