Jay Kleven competed on the Pioneer baseball team from 1967-71. He twice named the fist team All-Far Western Conference in 1970 and 1971. During his senior year, he batted .366 in Far Western Conference play and led the conference in RBIs. He was very instrumental to the success of the 1971 Cal State Hayward championship baseball team. Kleven played two weeks with the New York Mets in 1976 becoming the only Cal State Hayward graduate to play professional baseball.
