Pioneer Athletics Hall of Fame
Santos led both the women’s and men’s track team in the 70’s. He became the first track coach in the country to win national titles with the Pioneer women’s track team in 1972 and the men’s track squad in 1977. He led the Pioneer men’s track team to six FWC Conference Championships. Santos produced numerous All-American Athletes in both women’s and men’s track and field. He had four Pioneer Hall of Famers on his coaching staff including Harmon Brown, Don Chu, Joel Grose, and Don Sawyer. He also coached Pioneer Hall of Famers Greg Blankenship, Ray Clark, Willie Eashman, Doug Garner, Dave Haber, Marcus McGlory, and Mark Sawyer on the men’s side and women’s standouts Marilyn King, Cis Schaeffer, and Barbara Pickel. Santos was an Olympic coach in 1980 and a true legend in Cal State Hayward Track and Field.
