Friday Finals Session Results

LA MIRADA, Calif. – Mariam Lowe finished runner-up in the 100-yard backstroke at the Pacific Collegiate Swim Conference (PCSC) Championships on Friday night. Alyssa Tenney and Rachel Shimizu took fourth place in the 400-yard individual medley and 200-yard freestyle, respectively.

Lowe is the first Pioneer to earn a podium finish at this year's conference championship meet. She did so with a second place finish in the 100 back in a time of 56.87 seconds. Lowe is a 2-time podium finisher in this event, improving upon last year's effort when she took third as a freshman.

Tenney got East Bay off to a great start by becoming the first woman in program history to complete the 400 IM in under 4 minutes, 32 seconds. Her NCAA Provisional qualifying and school record time of 4:31.90 was good enough for fourth place.

Shimizu improved upon her prelims mark to finish fourth in the 200 free in a time of 1:53.02. She finished fourth in the event for the second straight year and swam in her sixth career PCSC Championship 'A' final race.

Courtney Schwiesow led a group of Pioneers in the 100-yard breaststroke with a win in the consolation final. Her finals time of 1:04.92 is a NCAA 'B' standard mark and fourth tenths of a second off her personal best.

The team of Lowe, Schwiesow, Arolyn Basham, and Tenney took fifth in the 400-yard medley relay to close out Friday's competition. Their time of 3:53.30 was a NCAA Provisional qualifying time.

Cal State East Bay is in sixth place with 563 points heading into the final day of competition. UC San Diego leads the team competition with 944 points.
