HAYWARD, Calif., -- The Cal State East Bay baseball team will return to action with a four game conference road series against Cal Poly Pomona after a week off from the diamond.
Â
The Pioneers and Broncos will open the series with a single game Friday afternoon March 29, followed by a Saturday afternoon, March 30 doubleheader and a Sunday series finale on March 31. All the games will be played at Scolinos Field.

East Bay is currently 9-16 on the season with a 6-13 mark in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play.

VETERAN SLUGGERS
The Pioneers are batting .276 with a .368 on-base percentage as a team through 25 games, both of which rank ninth and eighth in the CCAA. East Bay senior hitter Kysosuke Ushimaru (.348) is leading the way with has 31 hits with 22 RBIs and two home runs, both tea highs.
Dakota Conners (.364) has only appeared in 12 games but has racked up 24 bases, 16 hit and ten runs scored.
Adam Hollar (.318), and
Steve Robinson (.280) are both hitting over .280. Junior
Ryan McSwain is leading the Pioneers with a .378 batting average, .473 on-base percentage, .522 slugging percentage, 34 hits, 23 runs scored and 47 total bases.
Joey Dice isn't quite there in terms of average, but he is second on the team with 17 runs batted in.

THIEVING WAYS
East Bay leads all CCAA teams with 36 stolen bases in 50 attempts. Individually, McSwain (6 SB), Ushimaru (5 SB), Hollar (5 SB) and
Ryan Thomasy (5 SB) have four of the top ten stolen base totals in the league.

CSUEB has an unremarkable 6.20 team ERA thus far this season. Sophomore
Mark Woinarowicz has a 0.90 ERA in ten appearances. He is holding batters to a .194 batting average and has converted all three of his save opportunities. Starters
Brian Martinez (5.82 ERA) and
Jacob Nelson (2.91 ERA) lead the Pioneers with 29 and 23 strikeouts on the season. Newcomer
Kyle Basch (2.25 ERA) has all been effective out of the bullpen with one win and only four runs allowed through six appearances.

SCOUTING CAL POLY POMONA
The Cal Poly Pomona Broncos enter the matchup against East Bay with a record of 13-17 on the season with a 11-13 mark in conference play falling 3-1 in their four game road series against Sonoma State last weekend. Ryan Knowles leads the Broncos with a .390 batting average and a .581 slugging percentage with 41 hits, including 11 doubles, 25 RBI, and 61 total bases and a team-best three home runs. Brennan McKenzie is adding 35 hits, with 22 runs scored and 20 RBI. Tim Holdgrafer is leading the Cal Poly Pomona pitching staff with a 5-2 record through eight appearances with two complete games. He also has 54 strikeouts through 52 innings tossed with a 3.45 ERA.
