HAYWARD, Calif. -- After rain washed away the opening week of the 2019 baseball season, Cal State East Bay will look to have better luck with the weather this weekend as the Pioneer embark on a three-game non-conference series with Holy Names.

CSUEB will make the short drive to Alameda on Friday for the series opener, which has been moved up to 1 p.m. in an attempt to beat the forecasted rain. With potentially impactful weather in store all weekend, be sure to follow @EastBayPioneers on Twitter for real time schedule updates.

The Pioneers are slated to host Saturday's action at Pioneer Field, with the middle game of the series set for 12 p.m. The teams will then return to College of Alameda for the finale at noon on Sunday.

East Bay started that what supposed to be a three-game series vs. Menlo last Friday in Hayward, and made it through seven innings before the game had to be called for darkness. The remainder of the series was rained out. The Pioneers and Oaks will attempt to complete the suspended game on Tuesday, Feb. 12 at 1 p.m. in Hayward, then play a makeup game immediately afterwards. Another makeup contest is set for Tuesday, Feb. 19 at Menlo.

In their only competitive action so far, the Pioneers were trailing the Oaks, 9-6, after seven high-scoring innings of the opener. It was a strong offensive showing as they tallied 11 hits, including two each by Dakota Conners, Adam Hollar, Kyosuke Ushimaru, Jacob Eder, and Joey Dice. Newcomer Omar Sanchez reached base twice on walks and scored both times.

Left-hander Brian Martinez got the start on the mound and worked 2.0 innings, allowing four unearned runs after an error on a stolen base attempt. TJ Myers gave up a run and struck out four in 2.2 innings out of the bullpen in his Pioneer debut. Junior Ransome Alexander worked a scoreless frame in the top of the seventh before the game was called.

Holy Names managed to get in two games last week, a doubleheader on Friday at Stanislaus State. The Hawks dropped both ends of that twinbill by scores of 9-2 and 15-5. William Ruiz led the way offensively agains the Warriors, going 3-for-6 with two walks and three runs scored.
