OAKLAND, Calif., -- The No. 22Â ranked Cal State East Bay swim team won the annual Bay Area Invitational on Saturday at Trefethen Aquatic Center, topping the five-team field to close out a satisfying weekend.

The Pioneers scored 891 points collectively, just over 70 more than conference rival Biola in second place.

The team set the tone from the outset of the morning meet with a second place showing in the first event. The quartet ofÂ
Alondra Ortiz,
Rebecca Bay,
Victoria Zukeran and
Allie Klinger clocked in behind Biola by just two seconds in the 400 Medley Relay. Impressively, the "B" relay team of
Paige Branson,
Serene Augustain,
Kelee Shimizu and
Morgan Frank took fourth.

That was followed by the 1650, which
Peyton Wayment -- school record holder in the event -- won by a comfortable margin. She was more than 7 seconds better than the second place finisher with a time of 18:09.46.
Landry Walker added third place points for the Pioneers, and
Maddie Wittkowske scored as well with a fourth place performance.
Leah Robinson notched a fifth place finish.

Biola picked up its first win in the next event as Lisa Parahnevich and Nicole Chang out-touched a pair of Pioneers in the 100 Back, but East Bay still extended its point lead.
Allie Klinger was third in 1:01.37 with
Victoria Zukeran four-tenths of a second behind in fourth.
Alondra Ortiz added sixth place points as
Paige Branson and
Katrionna Furness compiled top 10 finishes.

The Pioneers led the way in the next event, the 100 Breast, as
Rebecca Bay placed second in 1:11.03 and
Tori Padilla took fifth.Â
Abigail Mitchell and
Morgan Frank finished strong to touch the wall in seventh and eighth.

Victoria Zukeran then earned her first event victory of the day for CSUEB with a dominant win in the 200 Fly in a time of 2:10.61 that was nearly three seconds ahead of the next closest swimmer,
Sofia Moufarrej. Once again, East Bay's depth was apparent as
Kelee Shimizu,
Alondra Ortiz,
Leah Robinson and
Peyton Wayment took ninth through twelfth in that order.

The Pioneers had a solid lead in the team standings at this point in the meet, but they nonetheless hogged nearly all the points in the next race.
Allie Klinger out-sprinted most of the field in the 50 Free with a time of 25.02 to finish second. She was the first of four CSUEB athletes in the top ten, as
Abigail Mitchell took sixth,
Katrionna Furness finished seventh and
Victoria Zukeran touched the wall tenth.

The second relay of the day saw similar results to the first, as the foursome of
Serene Augustain,
Isabel Rishwain,
Morgan Frank and
Maddie Wittkowske won handily in the 800 Free Relay in 8:00.11. And similar to the 400 Medley, CSUEB's "B" of
Landry Walker,
Sofia Moufarrej,
Paige Branson and
Tori Padilla team placed second in this race as well at a time of 8:11.65.

East performed well in the next event with All-American
Allie Klinger and
Abigail Mitchell taking second and third place in the 100 Free.
Isabel Rishwain scored fifth place points in 56.19.

That was followed by an extremely tight finish between four swimmers in the 200 Back. The Pioneers didn't pull out the win, but continued their strong team performance with a third place finish by
Alondra Ortiz and a fifth, sixth and seventh place efforts by
Katrionna Furness,
Morgan Frank and
Paige Branson.

In the 100 Breast,
Serene Augustain was outstanding with a third place finish in 2:34.43, while
Madison Chase took eighth.

The 500 Free followed that, and the Pioneers were extremely impressive collectively.
Peyton Wayment notched her second victory of the afternoon in a time of 5:20.20.
Maddie Wittkowske led the way in second place at 5:21.74.
Landry Walker notched a fourth place finish in touching the wall at 5:23.34.

The Pioneers were equally dominant in the next race, the 100 Fly. East Bay boasted four of the top eight swimmers in that event.
Victoria Zukeran tallied her second win of the afternoon with a time of 59.01. Sofia Mourfarrej and
Allie Klinger finished third and fourth in times of 1:01.68 and 1:01.91.
Isabel Rishwain clocked a seventh place showing at a time of 1:02.85.

The final individual event the 400 IM, saw
Serene Augustain notch a second place finish with a time of 4:44.39.
Landry Walker,
Abigail Mitchell and
Rebecca Bay all compiled top ten finishes, touching the wall in eighth, ninth and tenth place.

The meet closed with the Pioneers claiming another two of the top three spots in the 200 Free Relay.

Next on the schedule, CSUEB's level of competition ratchets up, as the Pioneers travel to UC Davis next weekend for a dual meet against the Division I Aggies.
