HAYWARD, Calif. -- The Cal State East Bay swim team competed at home for the first time this season on Friday afternoon in front of a great crowd on a beautiful afternoon at Pioneer Pool. CSUEB topped visiting Mills College in the dual meet, notching first place finishes in all 11 events.Â
The meet started with the 200 Medley Relay, which saw a good battle between East Bay's "A' and "B" squads for the top spot. Ultimately, the foursome of senior All-American
Vivy Hua, freshman
Ciera Nasso, junior All-American
Allie Klinger, and sophomore
Tatum Roepke touched the wall first in 1:50.57.
Sophomore
Peyton Wayment won the next -- and longest -- event of the day, the 100 Free. She posted a time of 11:07.34 to out-pace sophomore newcomer
Landry Walker and junior
Madison Chase.Â
Senior
Maddie Hulse followed that with an extremely impressive performance to take first place in the 200 Free. She turned in a time of 1:56.40 and out-touched sophomore teammate
Serene Augustain by just four tenths of a second.
Hua earned a narrow victory in the next race, the 50 Free, out-sprinting junior newcomer
Lauren Ostrander in second place. The pair touched the wall in 25.27 and 25.58, respectively.
Senior teammates
Laurel Carpenter and
Ryleigh Weight followed that with a good battle for first place in the 200 IM. Carpenter won out by a half-second, completing the medley in 2:14.98.Â
Junior
Victoria Zukeran then swam a time of 2:10.53 to out-pace sophomore
Sofia Moufarrej in the 200 Butterfly. That was followed by a strong effort from Klinger to win the 100 Free in 53.90, two seconds better than senior
Jande Monteon in second.
A trio of Pioneers led the way on the next event, the 200 Back. Sophomore
Tatum Roepke took first place with a time of 2:10:39, with freshman
Alondra Ortiz and senior
Miranda McDonnell close behind in second and third. That was followed by Augustain claiming the top spot in the 500 Free. She finished the distance race in 5:17.48, two seconds ahead of the runner-up, Hulse.
Nasso notched her first individual victory with a strong performance in the final solo event of the day, the 200 Breast. She touched the wall in 2:31.52, four seconds better than fellow rookie
Rebecca Bay in second place.
The meet wrapped up with the 200 Free Relay. Similar to the first relay, this one ended with a narrow victory for the Pioneer "A" team over the "B" squad. The quarter of Klinger, Hua, Roepke, and Augustain secured the win by eight tenths of a second over Ostrander, Hulse, Monteon, and Zukeran.Â
East Bay competes next in two weeks up at Mills College in Oakland. They'll race in a five-team dual meet on Friday, Oct. 26, then return the next morning for the annual Bay Area Invitational.Â
