HAYWARD, Calif. -- The Cal State East Bay men's track and field team hosted the fourth annual East Bay Invitational on a gorgeous weekend at Chabot College. The Pioneers turned in impressive performances in several events in their final meet of the 2017 regular season.
Alberto Venegas provided the highlight of Saturday's schedule for East Bay, taking first place in the 800 meters to notch the lone event victory of the meet for the host team. His time of 1:55.94 is a personal best and ranks as the 13th-fastest among CCAA runners this Spring.
Teammate
Jeremy Shaw was also impressive in the 800 with a fifth place finish. His time of 1:57.44 is a PR as well, and it ranks him 17th in the conference.
Sophomore sprinter
Aaron Jones ran well in both the 200 and 400 meters and posted times in both events that rank among the best in the CCAA, but he fell just short of season-best mark in both races. Jones just missed a victory in the 200, notching a runner-up finish in 22.07 second. He took fourth place in the 400, crossing the finish line with a time of 50.26.
Leo Skellenger represented the Pioneers proudly in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:14.05 to take 15th place overall.
Cameron Olson also ran that event, placing 31st in 4:29.53.
The rest of the East Bay distance squad competed in the 5000 meters. Freshman
Christian Moncada led the way with an eighth place finish and a time of 15:54.25.
Zach Kanlong was right with him and secured ninth place by less than half a second in 15:54.54.
Deion Molina was close behind in 10th place with a time of 15:59.50, and
Noah Siegel rounded out the quartet of Pioneers in the 5k, taking 20th in 16:41.20.Â
This was the final regular season meet of the season for the Pioneers, who will now prepare for California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Championships in three weeks at Chico State.
