Pioneers Show Depth Across Events at West Coast Relays

FRESNO - The Cal State East Bay men's track and field team delivered a well-rounded performance at the 2026 West Coast Relays in Clovis, highlighted by strong showings in the sprints, middle-distance races, and field events.
 
East Bay was led in the short sprints by Mailk Hensley-Prince, who placed 10th overall in the 100 meters with a time of 10.74, competing against a fast field. In the 400 meters, Che Jimenez paced the Pioneers with a 49.73 performance to finish 14th overall, while freshman Emmanuel Cortes added depth with a 50.97.
 
The Pioneers showcased impressive depth in the 800 meters, placing multiple runners in the top 25. Eion Daley led the group with a 10th-place finish in 1:53.14, followed by Phillip Logan in 15th (1:54.15).  Matthew Morgon (1:56.23) and Nicolas Bawardi (1:57.73) also posted strong marks, while John Funderburg (2:01.62) and Dylan Baptista (2:09.90) rounded out East Bay's entries.
 
In the 1500 meters, Logan again led the way, finishing 10th overall in 3:56.37, with Morgon close behind in 20th (3:58.96). Dylan Baptista (4:05.33), John Funderburg (4:10.53), and Jose Garcia Chavez (4:14.23) contributed to the team's depth in the event.
 
The distance squad also saw Brandon Simpson compete in the 5000 meters, finishing in 16:40.89.
 
Brevan Rohde represented East Bay in the 110-meter hurdles, placing 17th overall with a time of 16.23.
 
In the relays, the 4x400-meter team of Nicolas Bawardi, Phillip Logan, John Funderburg, and Eion Daley combined for a time of 3:25.17, finishing 11th overall.
 
East Bay posted strong results in the jumps, led by Amier Hollis, who had a standout meet. Hollis placed fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 14.08 meters (46'2½"), while also finishing sixth in the high jump after clearing 1.90 meters (6'2¾").  Dapri Smith matched that height in the high jump, clearing 1.90 meters to place eighth overall.
 
In the throws, Samuel Galtman recorded a mark of 43.07 meters (141'4") in the javelin, finishing 11th overall.
