12 combined new PRs set at CCAA Championships

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – Julia Carmona provided the first highlights on the women's side by scoring in the long jump and triple jump, Amier Hollis' effort in the triple jump placed the Pioneers on the scoreboard and Matthew Morgon capped Friday's action by finishing second in the 3000m Steeplechase, narrowly missing his personal best by two-hundredths of a second at the CCAA Track& Field Conference Championships, hosted by Cal State San Marcos from April 30-May 2 at Mangrum Track and Field in San Marcos.
 
Saturday started on a strong note with Savannah Garcia and Caitlin Alexis finishing second and third in the javelin. As the women's schedule for the day continued, Destini Clinton became the first individual to qualify for the 100 since 1992, finishing seventh in that race.

Jenna Rodriguez shined in the 800: A day after qualifying for the finals by winning her heat, she posted a time of 2:08.30, seven seconds faster than her preliminary mark and a time that was the eighth-fastest posted by anyone in this event in 2026. She finished second in this event with an effort that was nearly two seconds faster than the facilities' previous record, qualified the senior for NCAA Division II Outdoor postseason competition.
 
Cal State East Bay's weekend in San Marcos ended with Christian Diaz, Emmanuel Cortes, Eion Daley, Che Jimenez scoring points in the 4x400 relay, recording the final of 12 combined personal records by both teams.
 
Chico State captured men's and women's team championships with the Pioneers finishing seventh and eighth, respectively.


Women's Track Highlights

  • Destini Clinton is among the final eight sprinters who qualified for the 100 final.
  • In Saturday's race, she matched her personal best by clocking a 12.33, finishing seventh.
  • Jenna Rodriguez was responsible for the third-fastest preliminary time in the 800 and won her heat with a 2:15.76.
  • By posting a 2:08.30 in the 800 final, Rodriguez broke the previous facility record, qualified for NCAA DII postseason competition, set a new PR and by placing second.
  • Yamilet Deniz shaved three-hundredths of a second off her former personal best in the 800.
  • Madison Gomez and Angelique Martinez advanced to the finals of the 1500 by capturing the last two spots in the final.
  • In that 1500 final, Gomez and Martinez finished seventh and 12th.

Men's Track Highlights
  • Matthew Morgon provided the highlight of Friday's action on the track by finishing second in the 3000 Steeplechase. Not only did he record the first top-three result of the weekend and bump the Pioneers into fifth place entering Saturday's action, he maintained a blistering pace and finished two-hundredths shy of matching his personal best.
  • Amier Hollis set a new PR in the Decathlon by finishing with 5,750 points, topping his previous high by more than 500 points.
  • Brevan Rohde also set a new personal mark in the 110 Hurdles with a time of 15.70, three-hundredths of a second faster than his old PR.
  • Phillip Logan represented CSUEB in the 1500 and finished seventh, setting a new PR in the process that was more than a second and a half faster.
  • Eion Daley and Logan finished fourth and eighth in the 800 final with the former setting a new PR by one one-hundredth of a second.
  • Morgon finished seventh in the 5000, scoring in the last individual race of the weekend.
  • The Pioneers capped the Championships by setting a new PR in the 4x400 relay, shattering their previous best by over three seconds.

Women's Field Highlights
  • Julia Carmona earned the Pioneers' first points of the weekend by placing second in the long jump with a mark of 5.70m (18' 8.5"), a new personal record. Her prior best took place at last month's Bryan Clay Invitational when she posted a jump of 5.63m (18' 5.75").
  • Carmona added another five points by finishing within the top five in the triple jump, her leap of 11.82m (38' 9.5") was the fourth-longest distance.
  • Cal State East Bay owned the javelin, capturing two of the top three spots with Savannah Garcia placing second, setting a new personal best in the process. Caitlin Alexis secured third.

Men's Field Highlights
  • Hollis earned the men's first points of the weekend by finishing sixth in the triple jump, recording a distance of 13.41m (44' 0").
  • Running into a headwind, Christian Diaz shaved 51-hundredths of a second in the 200m from his old PR; he posted a 22.52 for the event.
  • Che Jimenez recorded a new personal best with a wind-aided 22.08.
  • Logan moved forward to Saturday's final in the 800 with a time of 1:53.40, the fastest preliminary result of the 24 participants in this event.
  • Joining Logan in the 800 final is Daley, thanks to his 1:56.86 — the second-fastest time in his heat.
  • Samuel Galtman broke his personal best in the javelin with a throw of 50.64m (166' 3"), over a meter more than his previous mark.
  • Hollis and Dapri Smith finished 4-5 in the high jump, adding a combined nine points to the Pioneers' total.
