DAVIS, Calif. -- The Cal State East Bay swim team raced against strong Division I competition on Friday in a double duel meet against UC Davis and the University of Nevada.
The host Aggies defeated the Pioneers head-to-head, 195-67, while the Wolfpack notched a 163-96 win over East Bay. It was nonetheless a productive day, with several fast times coming from the women in red and black.
Junior
Morgan McClure had an outstanding day and notched the only individual event victory of the afternoon for the Pioneers. She crushed the rest of the field in the 200 IM with a time of 2:04.90, which qualifies as an NCAA Division II "B" cut, and currently ranks as the fourth-fastest time in the nation.
McClure missed a second "B" cut by less than two-tenths of a second when she touched the wall in 2:03.73 to take third place in the 200 Backstroke. That time places her sixth in the nation during the first week of competition in November. She also took fifth place in the 100 Backstroke in 57.68, which ranks as the 12th fastest time in Division II. McClure closed out her evening by helping the Pioneers to third place in the 400 Freestyle Relay (3:37.09)
The Pioneers opened the meet with a fifth place showing in the first relay, the 200 Medley (1:49.37).
Kayleigh Davidson then paced the Pioneers in the second event and the longest race of the day, finishing third in the 1000 Freestyle in 10:50.00.
Madison Hauanio swam the 16th-fastest 200 Freestyle time in the country to place fourth in the next event. Her time of 1:54.58 barely beat McClure's from two weeks ago as the best 200 Free time on the team this season. Hauanio also paced the Pioneers with a fourth place finish in the 500 Freestyle (24.48) and a sixth place finish in the 100 Freestyle (53.66), and she led off the 400 Free Relay to finish off the day.
Claire Beaty was East Bay's top finisher in both the 100 Breaststroke (sixth place) and 200 Breaststroke (fourth place). Her time of 2:26.12 in the 200 Breast is her best of the season and currently ranks 25th in the nation.Â
Freshman
Victoria Zukeran led the way in the 200 Butterfly with a sixth place finish in 2:10.15, a time that places her 17th among Division II swimmers. Zukeran finished just behind sophomore Vivy Hua in the 100 Fly. The pair took fifth and sixth, with their respective times of 58.76 and 58.86 both ranking in the nation's top 35.
Mariam Lowe notched fifth place in the second distance event of the day, the 500 Freestyle. The senior's time of 5:16.36 put her just ahead of teammates Davidson and
Ryleigh Weight.
The Pioneers will return home for their next meet, a duel against Colorado College on Saturday, Nov. 19 at 1 p.m.
