Box Score 2 CARSON, Calif. -- The Cal State East Bay baseball team won both ends of its doubleheader at Cal State Dominguez Hills on Friday. The Pioneers improved their record to 23-16 and 17-14 in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play, and they clinched a series victory over the Toros with wins in the first three games.

Ben O'Bryan both threw complete games for East Bay, leading the team to an 11-4 win in game one and a 4-2 decision in the nightcap. The Pioneers have now won eight of their last nine games heading into Saturday's 11 a.m. series finale.
Game 1 -- CSUEB 11, CSUDH 4The Pioneers racked up 15 hits in support of Becker, matching a season high. They scored in the first inning for the fifth straight game, grabbing the momentum immediately with two runs. Kelly Starnes led off with a double, and Ryan Kochan and Daniel Carney both notched two-out singles to make it 2-0.
Two innings later, East Bay got another two-out RBI when

Brandon Alexander with a base hit to left.
After both pitchers put up a few zeroes, the Pioneers broke it open, scoring five runs in the sixth inning. A walk, a single, and a hit-by-pitch loaded the bases, and then Starnes roped a two-run single to left. After Ellis Stephney was hit by a pitch to re-load the bases, Thursday's hero Jason Fletcher laced a two-run double down the left field line. Alexander then knocked in the eighth run of the game with a ground out.
The Toros scored a pair of unearned runs against Becker in the bottom of the sixth, and then they tacked on two more in the seventh thanks to four straight two-out sngles.
East Bay went into the eighth inning with an 8-4 lead, but their offense kept the pressure on Dominguez Hills. Fletcher brought home Stephney with an infield hit to make it 9-4. After Alexander and Kochan both singled to load the bases, Porter ripped another two-out hit. The sophomore catcher's opposite-field single plated the final two Pioneer runs.
Becker needed just 96 pitches to get through nine innings and improve his record to 5-4. The senior scattered 10 hits, struck out three, and didn't walk a batter in his third complete game of the season.
Six different Pionee batters notched multiple hits in the game. Fletcher and Porter both finished 3-for-5 with three RBI. Stephney, Kochan, and Carney all had two knocks. Alexander was on base three times with a hit and two walks, and he scored all three times. Starnes posted two hits, two runs, two RBI, and a walk out of the leadoff spot.
Game 2 -- CSUEB 4, CSUDH 2O'Bryan took the ball for the seven-inning contest, and after allowing a pair of runs in the first, the senior proceeded to go the distance for his league-leading fifth complete game.
In the top of the first, the Pioneers made it sixth straight games scoring in the opening frame. Stephney singled up the middle, stole second, and scored on a base hit by Alexander.
Eren Miravalles followed with an RBI single to make it 2-0.
A single and a double produced a run for CSUDH in the bottom of the inning, and then a pair of walks loaded the bases with no outs. However, O'Bryan was able to minimize the damage. He got the next batter to ground into a double play, and then escaped the jam with a strikeout.
Neither team scored for the next four innings, and the score remained 2-2 into the sixth. Stephney led off with a single, and then Alexander broke the tie with a double down the right field line. O'Bryan threw up another zero in the bottom of the frame, taking advantage of another double play.
In the seventh, the Pioneers played some small ball to add an insurance run. Carney led off with a single, advanced to second on
Tyler Buchanan's bunt, moved up to third on passed ball, and then scored on
Zac Chuvala grounder to first.
The Toros put the tying runs on base in the last inning, but O'Bryan got two fly outs and a ground out to end the game. The right-hander ended up allowed two earned runs on six hits in seven innings. He walked three, struck out four, and notched his fourth victory of the season.
Alexander went 2-for-3 with two RBI, and Stephney finished 2-for-4 with a stolen base and pair of runs scored. Carney also posted a multi-hit game, going 2-for-3.
