Box Score TURLOCK, Calif. -- The Cal State East Bay baseball team defeated Cal State Stanislaus 13-6 on the road Friday afternoon in the first of four games between the two teams this weekend. It's the third straight victory for the Pioneers (10-7, 4-5 CCAA) and the seventh straight loss for the Warriors (5-10, 1-7 CCAA).

East Bay racked up 11 hits in the game, four of them by junior Ryan Kochan, and they drew 11 walks, including three each by Marcus Wise and Tyler Buchanan in a game that cruised well past the three-and-a-half hour mark.

Senior Nick Hudson (4-1) started on the mound and earned the win for the Pioneers. He allowed single runs in each of the first two innings, before putting zeroes on the board in five straight innings to allow the offense to break the game open. The right-hander came out after 6.1 innings, and relievers Bryce Vidmar, Bryan Webster, and Julian Garcia combined to get the final two outs of the seventh.

Brandon Alexander put the Pioneers on the board in the fourth inning with an RBI single to plate Kochan, who had led off the inning with a base hit and then stolen second base. The visitors finally took the lead two innngs later. A walk to Wise, a single by Eren Miravalles, and a double by Alexander tied it at 2-2, and then an infield error by Stanislaus brought in the third East Bay run.

The Pioneers came right back with six runs the following inning and never relinquished the lead after that. Kelly Starnes and Buchanan walked, and Zac Chuvala was hit by a pitch to load the bases with no outs. Then base hits by Wise, Kochan, Jason Fletcher, and Daniel Carney sandwiched around a walk to Miravalles and two Warrior errors made the score 9-2 before CSUS got a chance to bat again.

After Stanislaus answered back with four runs of their own in the bottom of the seventh, Fletcher helped East Bay put the game out of reach the very next frame. The Pioneers loaded the bases with two outs, and the junior cranked a double into the left-center gap to plate all three runners and make it 13-6.

Senior Taylor Kruger came in and pitched the final two innings of scoreless relief, allowing two hits, striking out one, and quelling any hopes of a final Warrior rally.

Kochan, the team's leading hitter entering the weekend, notched his second four-hit game of the season, going 4-for-5 with three runs scored. Fletcher finished 2-for-5 with a team-high four RBI, while Alexander posted two hits and knocked in three runs.

Wise was on base four times out of the leadoff spot with three walks and a single. In fact, the top three spots in the Pioneer batting order (Wise, Kochan, Miravalles) were on base 13 times in 18 plate appearances. Starnes and Buchanan both finished hitless, but the former drew two walks and the latter had three.

All in all, the teams combined for 22 hits, 17 bases on balls, and four errors. The Pioneers and Warriors will resume their series in Hayward on Saturday with a doubleheader starting at 11 a.m. Both games will have live audio broadcasts via pioneerwebtv.com.
