SANTA CRUZ, Calif. -
The Cal State East Bay swim team completed the weekend sweep with its second straight dual meet victory, this time topping UC Santa Cruz on Saturday. The Pioneers claimed all 13 races against the Banana Slugs to capture their seventh dual meet of the year.

East Bay opened the meet with a one-two finish in the 400 medley relay before Hannah Cutts claimed the 1650 freestyle. For the third time this weekend, Cutts set a new season best, while Rachel Shimizu and Jenni Perez gave the Pioneers three in the top four, finishing second and fourth, respectively.

Karly Wasung continued a successful weekend, taking the 200 free in 2:00.88, while Brittany Rojo placed third, just one second back of Wasung. East Bay followed that with a one-two-three finish in the 50 free, led by Jenel Lopez. Kameron Isaacs and Erica Crain finished less than a second back of Lopez.

Alyssa Tenney won her first of two races on the day in the 200 IM, leading another one-two-three finish for the Pioneers. Bethany Hoopman and Caitlin DeNise followed in second and third, while Rachel Knowles made it a sweep of the top four spots for East Bay.

The Pioneers continued their dominant performance in the 100 fly, where Crain snagged first, before Tenney, Shimizu and Alyssa Littlefield swept the top three spots in the 100 freestyle, with Tenney beating out Shimizu by more than two seconds. The 100 back saw another sweep for East Bay, with Hoopman, Rojo and Isaacs claiming the top three spots.

With swimmers mixing up their events, Lopez took her second event of the day, this time in the 500 free. Wasung finished second in the 500, while Jenni Perez claimed fourth. The Pioneers placed three in the top four in the 100 breaststroke, with Makila Schuck just out-touching the second-place finisher from UCSC and teammate Courtney Schwiesow, who finished just six-hundreths of a second back of Schuck. DeNise placed fourth to round out the individual races for East Bay.

The Pioneers finished the day with a one-two finish in the 200 free relay, led by the team of Lopez, Tenney, Isaacs and Rojo.

Cal State East Bay returns to action next weekend when they return home to play host to Azusa Pacific in the penultimate meet of the regular season. The Pioneers and Cougars will meet on Jan. 19 at Pioneer Pool, with the first race scheduled for 10 a.m.
