PHOENIX, Ariz. – The Pioneer baseball won its fifth game in its last eight contests following a 13-6 victory over Grand Canyon University on April 29.
The Pioneers tied a season-high with 13 runs scored in the victory.
Pioneer starting pitcher
Brandyn Bell won his sixth game in eight decisions. Bell scattered nine hits and allowed four runs in 6.1 innings. He recorded seven strikeouts.
Nick McManus improved his team-best batting average to .328 after going 4-for-5 at the plate.

Andrew Woolfe and
Josh Rush all drove in a pair of runs for the Pioneers.
McManus had a run scoring double to highlight a Pioneer three-run, first inning.
Cal State East Bay increased its lead to 5-0 with a run in the second and fourth innings.
Grand Canyon parlayed four hits into a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth to trail 5-2.
Sharrer opened the seventh inning with a double and advanced to third on a wild pitch. He scored on a Woolfe sacrifice fly.
The Pioneers 6-2 lead was short-lived as Grand Canyon pinch hitter Tyler Kamtz tripled home a pair of runs. Kamtz was stranded at third as
Johnny Volk relieved Bell and retired the next two Grand Canyon hitters.
Cal State East Bay put the game away with a season-high seven runs in the eighth inning. Brown singled home a pair of runs while Woolfe and Rush each added RBI singles.
With the victory, Cal State East Bay improves to 16-32 for the season. Grand Canyon is 21-24 overall.
The three-game series will continue on Saturday, April 30 with a single contest beginning at 1:00 p.m.
