SANTA ROSA, Calif. – Sonoma State improved to 11-6 in CCAA and 18-6 overall following a doubleheader sweep over Cal State East Bay 3-1 and 6-3.
The Pioneers took a 2-1 lead in the second game with two runs in the third inning.
Jared Berrier tripled to score
Aaron Brown who opened the inning with a walk. Berrier later scored on a wild pitch.
Alex Todd doubled home a pair of runs in the bottom of the third giving the Seawolves a 3-2 lead.
The Seawolves extended their lead to 4-2 with a run in the bottom of the seventh and added two insurance runs in the eighth inning.
East Bay scored a run in the top of the ninth as
Andrew Woolfe drove in
Nick McManus with an infield out.
Pioneer starting pitcher
A.J. Gallardo allowed four runs on seven hits with five strikeouts in five innings of work.
In the first game, the Pioneers took a 1-0 lead in the second inning.
Charlie Sharrer opened the inning with a single and later scored on a sacrifice fly by
Hector Iribe.
The Seawolves tied the game with a run in the bottom of the second.
Sonoma State scored the go-ahead runs in the bottom of the seventh. Steven Filippi doubled home Cameron Cook and later scored on Kyle Jones' bases loaded walk.
Pioneer starting pitcher
Brandyn Bell allowed three runs on six hits with three strikeouts in 6.1 innings. Reliever
Xavier De La Cruz hurled 1.2 innings of scoreless baseball.
The Pioneers, now 5-15 in the CCAA and 7-20 for the season, will host San Francisco State on March 29 in a CCAA doubleheader. The first pitch is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
