Box Score ROHNERT PARK, Calif. - The Cal State East Bay Pioneers baseball team battled back from an early deficit, but ultimately fell to the Sonoma State Seawolves 7-4 in a CCAA series finale on Sunday at Seawolf Diamond. The loss resulted in a series split.
On Sunday, the Pioneers found themselves in an early hole as Sonoma State erupted for five runs across the second and third innings. The Seawolves' offensive onslaught was spearheaded by Vinny Lencioni, who had a an outstanding day at the plate that inclued a two-run home run in the third.
CSUEB's bats awakened in the fourth inning when Danelle Daniels launched his second home run in as many days, a solo shot that put the Pioneers on the board. The momentum continued to build as Nick Thomson and Carson Cripe each delivered sacrifice fly RBIs in the fifth and sixth innings respectively, narrowing the gap to 5-3.
The Seawolves responded with a run in the bottom of the sixth, but the Pioneers kept pace. In the top of the seventh, Micah Cervantes grounded out to drive in Jacob Klinovsky, bringing CSUEB within striking distance at 6-4.
However, Lencioni struck again in the eighth, belting his second home run of the day to extend the lead to 7-4. Despite their best efforts, the Pioneers were held scoreless in the final two frames, unable to mount a late rally.
- Danelle Daniels finished the day 2-for-4 with a home run and a stolen base.
- Klinovsky also finished the day going 2-for-4.

The Pioneers will look to bounce back as they return home to Pioneer Baseball Field in Hayward, California for their next series. They'll face Simpson (Calif.) in a non-conference series opener on Friday, February 28, with the first pitch scheduled for 2 p.m.
