FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The Pacific Collegiate Swim Conference (PCSC) announced its first Athletes of the Week for the 2023-24 season. From Cal State East Bay,
Brooklyn Dressel was named Female Swimmer of the Week and
Tehani Kong was named Female Freshman of the Week after each's performances in last Saturday's dual meet against Pacific.
Dressel won the 50 yard freestyle in 24.21 seconds and the 100 yard freestyle in 52.24 seconds. She also was on two winning relay teams - the 200 yard medley relay and the leadoff leg of the 400 yard freestyle relay. Her collection of first place finishes helped the Pioneers in winning last Saturday's dual meet. For Dressel, the most recent award is not her first weekly award from the conference. In late October 2022, she was named PCSC Swimmer of the Week.
In her first meet as a Pioneer, Kong won the 100 yard butterfly (57.77 seconds) and placed second in the 50 yard freestyle. She also was on the winning relay teams in the 200 yard medley relay and the 400 yard freestyle relay.
The next time Dressel and Kong are in action with the Pioneers will be on October 13 and 14 in two separate events named The Slug Shootout on the campus of UC Santa Cruz.
