Overview

Cal State East Bay travels to Southern California for a four game CCAA series at Cal State San Bernardino. The Pioneers are coming off a four game sweep against Cal State Dominguez Hills last weekend while the Coyotes lost their series against No. 17 Cal State Monterey Bay three games to one.

History

The Pioneers have won the last eight meetings dating back to 2018 against the Coyotes.

Three Players to Watch

Luke Novitske – The freshman from Pleasanton, California leads the Pioneers in batting average (.346) and is fourth on the team in at-bats (130).

Mark Woinarowicz – The junior from Yorba Linda, California is third on the Pioneers with a 3.68 ERA and leads the team in strikeouts with 68. 

Francisco Pedraza – The senior from Alameda, California is second on the team in batting average (.324) and leads the team in hits (48), RBI (40), doubles (10) and home runs (10). This past week, his 6-for-17 performance in the series against CSUDH led him to being named CCAA Player of the Week. 

Last Series

Cal State East Bay swept Cal State Dominguez Hills to come within a game of the Toros for fifth place in the CCAA standings. On Friday, the Pioneers won 6-3 after scoring two runs in the bottom of the second and two runs in the bottom of the fifth. On Saturday, the Pioneers won game one in walk-off fashion, 5-4 and took the second game in seven innings, 3-2. The Pioneers won again in walk-off fashion 4-3 on Sunday.

Around the CCAA

The Pioneers are tied with Sonoma State for the sixth and final playoff spot with eight games to go in the regular season. The Seawolves will take on Cal State Dominguez Hills in Carson this weekend. No. 14 Cal State Monterey Bay has clinched a spot in the CCAA Championship, currently sitting in first place in the conference standings.
