Overview

CSU East Bay returns to Hayward this coming weekend for a four-game CCAA series against San Francisco State. The Pioneers were swept this past weekend at Cal Poly Pomona, and will look to snap a six-game losing streak. The Gators split their series 2-2 against No. 19 CSU Monterey Bay in San Francisco.

History

The Gators took the last matchup, in 2019 between the two programs, 3-2. In the last 10 meetings between the Pioneers and SF State, Cal State East Bay is 3-7. 

Three Players to Watch 

Francisco Pedraza - The senior from Alameda went 6-for-15 in the series against Cal Poly Pomona with two doubles, a triple and a home run. He has a team-high five home runs in 2022. He also has a .649 slugging percentage, which is fourth in the conference. 

Essex Brown Jr. – The junior from Sacramento is averaging .316 on the season and went 3-for-4 in game two of the series at Cal Poly Pomona with a double, a triple, while scoring two runs. He leads the Pioneers with 20 runs scored and three triples on the season and leads the CCAA in stolen bases with 16 on the season. 

Mark Woinarowicz – The junior from Yorba Linda, California has a 4-0 record with a 3.89 ERA. He has 36 strikeouts and has allowed 47 hits.  

Last Series for Cal State East Bay

The Pioneers were swept by Cal Poly Pomona this past weekend. In game one on Friday, the Pioneers spotted the Broncos a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. The Pioneers would come as close as one, at 4-3, after 2½ innings, but the Broncos won 12-7. In the doubleheader on Saturday, the Pioneers dropped two close games losing 8-5 in the first game and losing the second game 3-2. On Sunday, the Pioneers fell 17-2.

Around the CCAA 

To start the week, Cal Poly Pomona hosts a non-conference matchup on Tuesday against Biola. Starting Friday, 10 of 11 teams are in action for a conference series, with Cal State Dominguez Hills not in action for the weekend. Chico State will take on CSU San Marcos this weekend in Chico, CSU Monterey Bay will take on Stanislaus State in Seaside and CSU Dominguez Hills has the weekend off. Chico State (RV) sits atop the conference standings at 12-3 in CCAA play, followed by No. 19 Cal State Monterey Bay and Cal State Dominguez Hills tied for second place at 11-5. The Pioneers will look to climb in the standings when they host their upcoming series this weekend.
