Overview
CSU East Bay will travel to Southern California for the first time this season as they will take on Cal Poly Pomona in CCAA play. The Pioneers split their last series against Sonoma State in Hayward while Cal Poly dropped three of four to #19 CSU Monterey Bay in Seaside.
History
The Broncos lead the all-time series between the two teams at 23-16. The Pioneers have won five out of the last eight games between the two teams dating back to 2018. This series will be the first time the two schools have played each other in baseball since 2019.
Three Players to Watch
Matthew O'Mahony – O'Mahony has had a strong start in conference play hitting .375 with a home run, a double and four RBI. O'Mahony is also tied for first in the CCAA with a perfect fielding percentage at 1.000.
Ethan Brodsky – Brodsky is third in the CCAA in ERA (2.52). He also has a strong win/loss record with a 3-1 record overall.
Francisco Pedraza – Pedraza is second on the team in batting average (.339) but is averaging .355 in CCAA play. He was 7-14 against Sonoma State with 5 runs scored, 4 RBI, 2 home runs and 1 double
Last Series
The Pioneers took on Sonoma State last weekend in CCAA play. In game one, O'Mahony and Pedraza hit home runs in the second to give the Pioneers the early lead. The Seawolves would respond with two runs in the third and one in the fourth to take the lead 3-2. The Pioneers would tie the game in the fourth inning and would take the lead for good in the fifth on a Manny Garcia double. Tommy Scavone had eleven strikeouts. Game one on Saturday featured 29 hits between the two teams as the Pioneers took the lead in the fifth inning and did not look back winning 11-6. Game two on Saturday saw the Seawolves take the lead in the fifth and win 5-2. On Sunday, in game four, the Seawolves would put up a single run in the fifth, sixth, seventh and ninth innings en route to a 4-1 victory.
Around the CCAA
There are four other series slated for this weekend around the conference. #19 CSU Monterey Bay, CSU Dominguez Hills and CSU San Bernardino are tied for the conference lead at 9-3. The Otters will take on San Francisco State in San Francisco, the Toros will visit CSU Los Angeles and the Coyotes will visit CSU San Marcos.
