INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- The first day of the 2019 NCAA Division II Swimming & Diving Championships was a historic one for Cal State East Bay as junior
Allie Klinger entered the program record books.
Klinger opened the championship meet with a school record in the prelim session of the 50 Freestyle. Her mark of 23.33 bested the previous record, which had been held by assistant coach
Caitlin DeNise and had stood since the 2014 NCAA Championships, exactly five years ago to the day.Â
The time also vaulted Klinger, who entered the event as the No. 36 seed, into the top-16. She qualified for the consolation final and went onto to finish in 13th place during the evening session. That impressive finish scored the first points of the week for CSUEB and earns Klinger honorable mention All-America status.
Sophomore
Peyton Wayment also competed in the 1000 Freestyle for the Pioneers on Wednesday. She improved on her 33rd seed and placed 29th with a time of 10:23.12, just 0.6 seconds behind her school record pace.
Klinger returns to the pool on Thursday to compete in her second event, entering the 100 Butterfly as the No. 29 seed. All the action will be streamed live on the
NCAA website.
