Thursday Results: Prelims | Finals
GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Cal State East Bay swim team scored 46 points on the second day of NCAA Division II Championships at Greensboro Aquatic Center to move up to eighth place in the team standings at the midway point of the four-day meet.
It was another outstanding day for the Pioneers, who scored in three events and saw two more school records fall with All-American performances.
The morning prelim session started with the 200 Free Relay, and the Pioneers performed to their seeding with a 14th place finish to qualify for the consolation final during the evening program.Â
The quartet of
Vivy Hua,
Morgan McClure,
Shelby Parker, and
Allie Klinger went on to post a time of 1:34.08, just a hair off last year's program record. They placed 14th again in the finals, earning All-America honorable mentions for all four swimmers.
Senior
Claire Beaty just missed qualifying for the consolation final in the next event, the 400 IM, touching the wall in 4:28.01 to finish 17th in prelims.
Klinger competed in the 100 Fly prelims after that, taking 33rd place with a time of 56.85.Â
The 200 Free followed, with McClure entering as the seventh seed. She swam her second-fastest time ever in prelims, qualifying sixth for the championship final in 1:49.25. Later in the evening, the senior notched a seventh place finish to pick up her second First Team All-America award of the meet.
The final event of the day was the 400 Medley Relay. The Pioneers entered as the ninth seed and turned in a school record time in prelims to place eighth and snag the final spot in the championship final by less than two-tenths of a second. McClure, Beaty, Klinger, and Hua set the record in 3:44.82, lowering the previous mark the same foursome established last month at PCSC Championships.Â
The Pioneers didn't quite match their record time in the finals, but the last women's race of the evening was nonetheless a huge success for CSUEB. The team placed fifth in the country, the highest finish for an East Bay relay at the national championship meet since 2014. They also finished two spots ahead of conference rival UC San Diego, allowing them to leapfrog the Tritons in the points standings.Â
McClure, Beaty, Klinger, and Hua are now First Team All-Americans in both medley relays events.Â
