CHICO, Calif. -- The Cal State East Bay men's track and field team closed out the Spring season with a seventh place finish in the team standings at the 2017 California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Championships, held over the last three days at Chico State's University Stadium.
The Pioneers scored nine points at the championship meet, including their first in a distance event since 2014. Chico State won the team title for the 13th time in the last 14 years.
Sophomore
Aaron Jones was East Bay's highest scoring individual this week. He ran the 400 meters in 49.68 and qualified seventh in Friday's prelims. That time stands as the eighth-fastest in program history. He nearly equaled it on Saturday in the finals, crossing the tape in 49.69 to finish in sixth place and score three points for the Pioneers. Jones also competed in the 200 meters, but fell short of qualifying with a prelim time of 22.31 that left him in 14th place.

Freshman
Pedro Cruz was the third Pioneer to score, taking seventh place in the 10,000 meters to add two more points to the team total. Cruz crossed the finish line in 32:22.58 to cap off the best freshman season by a CSUEB distance runner in the CCAA era.
