CHICO, Calif. -- A handful of members of the Cal State East Bay track and field team went up to compete at the Chico State Distance Carnival this past weekend in the penultimate tune-up before California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Championships.
The Pioneers sent three men and three women to represent CSUEB by racing against a field consisting of athletes from several CCAA squads.
On the women's side, senior
Sarah Perrin placed seventh in the 1500 Meter Invite with a time of 4:45.13, which ranks just outside the top 25 in the conference this Spring.
Cecilia Carretero also ran the 1500, notching a first place victory in the Seeded Run with a time of 4:54.29.
Brittney Duquette ran the 400 meters for the Pioneers, crossing the finish line in 1:04.11 and placing 14th overall.
The men's team, meanwhile, had all three runners in the 1500. Esteban Leon turned in the best time of the trio with as mark of 4:06.44. He posted a third place finish in the Open Run. Miguel Morales ran in that same field and took 19th overall in 4:21.77.
Israel Sotelo competed in the Seeded Run and placed 13th, crossing the tape in 4:08.66.
Next weekend, the Pioneers are back in Hayward to host the final meet of the regular season. The fourth annual East Bay Invitational will take place Apr. 14-15 at Chabot College.
