HAYWARD, Calif. — Jenna Rodriguez delivered a historic performance for Cal State East Bay, breaking a program record in the 800 meters that had stood for 45 years at the Bryan Clay Invitational.
Rodriguez crossed the finish line in 2:08.43, surpassing the previous school record set in 1981 and etching her name into the Pioneer record book. Entering the meet already ranked second all-time in program history, Rodriguez improved on her previous best to claim the top spot.
"Beauty in the making. I witnessed the first one 41 years ago with my teammate, and now I've experienced it again with my athlete. It's come full circle," head coach Norm Alston.
Rodriguez's performance provides momentum for Cal State East Bay as the Pioneers prepare for the upcoming postseason meets.
