HAYWARD, Calif. -- The Cal State East Bay women's track and field team hosted the fourth annual East Bay Invitational on Friday and Saturday at Chabot College. The Pioneers had a strong showing on a beautiful weekend in the Bay Area, posting notable finishes in both sprint and distance events.
Senior
Sarah Perrin provided the highlight of Saturday's action with a first place finish in the 800 meters, the team's only event victory of the meet. She crossed the finish line in 2:19.54, posting a two-second victory. That time is a PR and ranks just outside the top 25 in the CCAA this season.
The Pioneers had the top two finishers in that race, as
Katherine Embody took second in the 800 in 2:21.84.
In the sprints,
Jasmine Starks led the way with a second place finish in the 200 meters. Her season-best time of 26.06 is also just outside the top 25 in the conference. She also took third place in the 100 meters with a finals time of 12.83.
Starks finished nearly dead even in the 100 with teammate
Imani Blincoe, who notched a third place finish in 12.84. Blincoe also ran the 200 for the Pioneers and took seventh place overall in 26.84.
Brittney Duquette rounded out a trio of CSUEB sprinters in the 200, placing 11th with a time of 27.36. The sophomore also competed in the 400 meters and took 11th place again in 1:02.70.
The pair representing the Pioneers in the 1500 meters both ran well, as
Cecilia Carretero (4:53.18) and
Megan Satterfield (4:57.22) finished in sixth and eighth place, respectively.
Taryn Stevenson ran the 5,000 meters in 20:11.73 to post a fifth place finish.
Sydney Johnson was the only Pioneer to compete in a field event, placing 14th overall in the Long Jump with a distance of 14 feet 1 inch (4.29m).
This was the final regular season meet of the season for the Pioneers, who will now prepare for California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Championships in three weeks at Chico State.
