COMPLETE RESULTS
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. -- The Cal State East Bay women's track and field team opened the 2016 season with a strong performance at the Johnny Mathis Invitational, hosted by San Francisco State at Cox Stadium.
"We had a great first day with several personal bests" said head coach
Tony Nicolosi. "The women had great openers in the 1500 and the 100 today, and we took the first steps towards becoming competitive and relevant in this conference."
The Pioneer distance runners started the season on the the right foot with some strong performances in the 1500 meters. Senior
Oddessy Tapia led the way with a seventh place finish and a time of 4:44.20.
Senior
Imani Heath (4:53.92) and Junior Candace Compton (4:54.48) also broke the five-minute mark, taking 13th and 14th place, respectively.
Kelsey Lamb did the four laps in 5:03.65 to finish 26th, followed by
Suzanne Bateson (5:20.56) in 43rd place and
Taryn Stevenson (5:31.92) in 50th.
The sprinters were led by
Sydney Johnson with a seventh place finish in the 100 meter dash. She broke the tape in 12.82 seconds in the first race of the spring.
Imani Blincoe placed 11th overall with a time of 12.94, and
Talia Cox rounded out the event in 18th place in 13.72 seconds.
Ravyn Miller turned in a solid time in the 400 meters, taking 10th place in 1:02.05.
Donnisha Brown represented the Pioneers in the 200 meters, placing 17th in 28.96 seconds.
The Pioneers will be back in action next Saturday, Mar. 5, when they travel to Turlock for the annual Kim Duyst Invitational, hosted by Stanislaus State.
