STANFORD, Calif. -- Members of the Cal State East Bay men's track and field team participated in two separate Bay Area events on Friday. Sprinters
Marquise Cherry and
Khalil Corbin competed at the prestigious Stanford Invitational, while a handful of Pioneer distance runners ran at the annual San Francisco State Distance Carnival.
At Stanford, Cherry and Corbin both ran against an extremely talented field in the 100 meters. The former posted the top time, finishing third in his heat in 10.76 seconds. Cherry was just short of his season-best time of 10.73. Corbin finished in 10.87 seconds, good for fourth place in his heat.
Cherry also competed in the long jump, posting a distance of 22 feet, 9.75 inches (6.95 meters) to place ninth overall.
Stanford Invitational Friday ResultsAt the SF State Distance Carnival, five Pioneers runners entered in the 800 meters.
Leo Theus III led the way with a time of 2:00.15 to take 63rd place in the field of 101.
Kyle Fetter also ran a solid race, crossing the finish line in 2:01.55. Latee Pigee was right behind him with a time of 2:02.22.
Irvin Parada (2:10.53) and
David Caballero (2:11.78) rounded out East Bay's performance in the 800.
Freshman
Zach Kanlong was the lone Pioneer to run the 1500 meters, turning in a time of 4:21.45.
The Distance Carnival continues on Saturday with several field events, as well as the sprints and relay races. Click here to follow
