MESA, Ariz. -- Members of the Cal State East Bay men's track and field team competed at both the Sun Angel Classic, hosted by Arizona State, and the Mesa Classic, hosted by Mesa Community College this weekend.
At Arizona State, two Pioneer men ran the 100 meter dash against a field of top Division I competition.
Marquise Cherry took sixth place overall with a time of 10.96 seconds, and fellow junior
Khalil Corbin finished eighth in 11.05.
Cherry also participated in the long jump and notched an impressive leap on his final turn. He took fourth place in the event with a distance of 23 feet, 3.25 inches (7.09 meters).
East Bay also sent three athletes to run sprints at the Mesa Classic with some strong results. Cherry and Corbin improved their times in the 100 meters, clocking in at 10.81 and 10.84 seconds, respectively.
The pair ran the 200 meters as well, and once again finished close to one another. Cherry crossed to finish line in 22.20 to place 12th overall in the event. Corbin wound up in 15th place with a time of 22.55 seconds.
Leo Theus III turned in a solid showing in the 400 meters, circling the track in 50.32 seconds to finish in 10th place.
Next week, the Pioneers will be back in action when they host the
CSUEB Legacy Invitational on Saturday, Apr. 18 at Chabot College.
