SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- The Cal State East Bay women's track and field team competed against some of the top NCAA Division I and II programs in the West on Saturday at the Hornet Invitational, hosted by Sacramento State.
The highlight of the day for the Pioneers came in the 800 meters, as
Sarah Perrin and
Oddessy Tapia both ran personal best times. Perrin clocked in at 2:18.68, taking 16th place overall and sixth among Division II runners. Tapia was less than a second behind at 2:19.40.
Also in the 800m, American River College sophomore Kandace Compton, who has committed to CSUEB, won her section with a time of 2:14.71, which currently ranks as the fourth-fastest junior college time in the state.
Celina Vera turned in a solid showing in the 5000 meters, crossing the finish line in 19:20.12. She placed seventh overall, but first among Division II runners.
A trio of Pioneers ran the 1500 meters, with
Imani Heath leading the way. She finished in 4:54.42, good for 20th overall and third among Division II athletes.
Iris Martinez clocked in at 5:18.06, and
Vanessa Mares was right behind her in 5:18.11.
In the sprints,
Corryn Barney ran a good race for East Bay in the 200 meters, taking 17th place and fifth among DII runners with a time of 26.16 seconds.
Kiera Bethley finished the 200m in 27.85, and
Donnisha Brown posted a time of 28.13.
Brown also ran the 100 meter dash for the Pioneers, clocking in at 12.97 seconds.
Three East Bay women competed in the 400 meters, with
Samira Foy pacing the group. She placed 23rd overall and seventh among DII runners with a time of 1:00.61. She was followed by
Talia Cox (1:05.85) and
Cynia Sapp (1:07.07).
The foursome of
Suzanne Bateson, Perrin, Barney, and Foy took eighth place in the 4x400 relay with a time of 4:11.57.
