SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- The Cal State East Bay men's track and field team competed in the Sacramento State Hornet Invitational on Saturday, and several Pioneer athletes had strong performances against some of the top Division I and II programs in the West.
Fresh off back-to-back first place finishes to open the season,
Marquise Cherry placed high on the leaderboard once again in the long jump. He finished sixth overall with a leap of 6.98 meters (22 feet, 11 inches), the longest jump of the day from a Division II athlete.
Khalil Corbin took 16th place in the overall field of 70 runners in the 100 meter dash. The junior's time of 10.90 was second-best among Division II runners.
Leo Theus III led a pair of Pioneers in the 800 meters, clocking in at 2:02.50. He placed third among DII runners and 37th overall. Teammate
Orlando Ramirez crossed the finish line in 2:10.22.
Latee Pigee had a solid showing in the 1500 meters, posting the second-fastest Division II time at 4:27.84. He placed 49th in the overall field.
Zach Kanlong (16:52.09) and
Irvin Parada (17:20.21) represented East Bay in the 5000 meters and were the only two DII runners in the field.
Austin Brown ran the 400 meters in 53.65 seconds individually. He also teamed up with Theus, Cherry, and Corbin for the 4x400 relay. They finished in 3:28.34, taking 10th place as the only Division II squad in the race.
Julian-Vincent Garcia rounded out CSEUB's day with a throw of 34.17 meters (112 feet, 1 inch) in the javelin.
