East Bay leads the series against the California Collegiate Athletic Association's first-place team two games to one, heading into Sunday's finale, which is scheduled for 11 a.m.

"After losing the first game, it was good to see our guys bounce back and have some good at bats and put up some runs against one of the best pitchers in the league," said head coach Bob Ralston. "We put ourselves in a postion to win the series tomorrow, which is huge."

Game 1 -- CPP 7, CSUEB 2

The Broncos never trailed in the first game. After starting pitcher Sean Becker breezed through the first two innings, David Armendariz drove in a run with a double following a rare walk. Joseph Eusebio hit a solo home run the next inning to put CPP up 2-0.

The Pioneers got base runners against Pomona starter Steven Farnworth, but couldn't manage any scoring rallies through the first six innings. They ended up stranding 11 total runners in the game.

Another solo home run followed by three straight singles gave the Broncos two more runs in the top of the sixth. East Bay answered back as Ellis Stephney drove in Kelly Starnes with a base hit, but they still trailed 4-1 after seven innings.

The visitors put the game out of reach with three more runs in the eighth. Becker (3-2) was relieved two batters into the frame and ended up suffering the loss, allowing six runs on nine hits in 7.0 innings. Julian Garcia pitched the final two innings for the Pioneers and was charged with a run on four hits.

East Bay did pick up another run in ther bottom of the eighth when Eren Miravalles led off with a double, and Jason Fletcher knocked him in with a single.

Miravalles finished with three of the team's 12 hits in his five at bats. Starnes went 3-for-4 with a double., a run, and a stolen base. Fletcher and Stephney both notched two hits, and Daniel Carney was on base twice with a single and a walk.

Game 2 -- CSUEB 5, CPP 2

The Pioneers picked up a huge win to close out the day, grabbing an early lead against Pomona starter Cody Ponce, who entered the game with a 1.11 ERA in 31.1 innings. Stephney reached on an error to lead off the bottom of the first, and Ryan Kochan and Brandon Alexander followed with base hits to make it 1-0 Pioneers.

After O'Bryan set the Broncos down in order, East Bay loaded the bases in the second innings on two hits and a walk. Stephney then muscled a single into right-center to plate another run, but Ponce got a double play to escape further trouble.

Pomona tied the game with two runs on three hits and a walk in the top of the third inning, but that was the only scoring rally they were able to mount against O'Bryan.

East Bay immediately ansered back in the bottom of the frame and chased Ponce from the game. Miravalles, Fletcher, Carney, and Starnes all hit line drive singles, giving the Pioneers two runs and a 4-2 lead.

The Pioneers tacked on an unearned run in the sixth. Chuvala reached to lead things off, advanced on a single by Kochan, and scored the fifth run on a grounder by Miravalles.
