HAYWARD, Calif. -- The Pioneer baseball team and Menlo College gave it a valient effort this morning, but could only make it through three innings of a scheduled doubleheader before rain forced a postponement. The Oaks lead Cal State East Bay by a score of 2-1 heading into the top of the fourth inning.
The teams will resume today's contest on Wednesday, February 12 at 11 a.m. Because both squads agreed to play under halted-game rules, the first three innings of the game will count, and it will resume in the top of the fourth. Once the suspended game is completed, the squads will play a second game Wednesday afternoon, tentatively scheduled for 2 p.m.
Sean Becker is East Bay's pitcher of record. The senior tossed the first three innings, allowing two runs on three hits. The Pioneers got on the board in the bottom of the third when freshman Marcus Wise singled on a hot shot to shortstop, and junior
Eren Miravalles followed with an RBI triple into the right-center gap. Those were the only two hits for CSUEB against Menlo starter Daniel Chavez, who needed 68 pitches to get through three innings because of some extended at-bats for the Pioneers.
The start of CCAA play is exactly one week away, and the Pioneers (2-0) have only been able to play two games thus far thanks to some much-needed rain in the Bay Area.Â
