Box Score LA JOLLA, Calif. — The No. 25 Cal State East Bay baseball team slugged its way to a crucial 11-3 win at UC San Diego on Sunday. The Pioneers (24-10, 14-10 CCAA) earned a four-game split with the Tritons (17-15, 12-12 CCAA) in their first true road series of the year. Nick Hudson pitched seven strong innings to pick up the win against his former team. The East Bay offense tallied 19 hits in the game, led by Charlie Sharrer and Naea Kalehuawehe, who each went 4-for-5.

After two scoreless frames, the Pioneers jumped on the board first with two runs in the third inning off Triton starter Trevor Scott. Kyle Zozaya led off with a double in the gap, then Brandon Alexander legged out an infield hit on a bunt. With no outs, Sharrer knocked in one run with a sacrifice fly. After Alexander advanced to third on an error by the pitcher, Kalehuawehe lifted a sac fly into left to plate another run.

Troy Cruz, who stymied the Pioneers on the mound in yesterday's second game, helped the Tritons answer back with a run in the third. After Danny Susdorf singled, Cruz shot a double into right-center, cutting the East Bay lead in half at 2-1.

The Pioneers broke the game open in the fourth, however. Scott walked Zac Chuvala to lead off the inning. Then Eren Miravalles, Kenny Uyetake, and Zozaya hit back-to-back-to-back singles, with the latter two picking up an RBI each. After Alexander drove in another run with a sac fly, Sharrer laced a two-bagger down the left field line to plate Zozaya. Kalehuawehe finished off the scoring with a base hit to left, bringing home Sharrer. By the time Hudson returned to the mound, East Bay led 7-1.

Sharrer and Kalehuawehe raked consecutive singles in their next at bats, putting two on with one out in the sixth. David Castillo then picked up the RBI with a sac fly to left, extending the lead to 8-1. Uyetake drove in a run the following inning with a ground out after an infield error put two runners on base.

The Pioneers rounded out their scoring in the top of the eighth. Sharrer doubled to lead things off, and Kalehuawehe knocked him in with a single. After the junior designated hitter stole second, Chuvala made it 11-1 with a run-scoring single.

Hudson (2-1) exited with a 10-run lead after seven innings of work. The junior right-hander allowed one earned run on five hits and struck out six, earning his second victory. Bryce Vidmar tossed a perfect eighth inning with one strikeout. Taylor Kruger pitched the ninth to close out the game, allowing two runs (one earned).

Sharrer scored three runs and drove in two to go along with his four-hit day. Kalehuawehe added a team-high three RBI to his 4-for-5 effort. Zozaya went 3-for-6 and scored a pair of runs.

Miravalles batted out of the leadoff spot and was on base five times in the game, going 2-for- 3 with three walks. Chuvala reached base four times, himself, posting two hits, two walks, and two runs scored. Castillo finished 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Uyetake knocked in a pair of runs for the Pioneers.

CSUEB combined for 21 runs and 35 hits in their two wins on Thursday and Saturday. They now have a week off before heading back down to Southern California for a huge road series at Cal State L.A., starting Apr. 12.
