HAYWARD, Calif. --- After playing nine straight matches at home, the Cal State East Bay volleyball team will travel south this weekend for its first road matches of CCAA play. The Pioneers will visit Cal State Dominguez Hills on Friday night and Cal State L.A. on Saturday night, with both matches set for 7 p.m.
TUESDAY RECAP
East Bay finished its recent homestand with a record of 6-3, which includes a 4-0 showing at the Route 92 Showdown and a 2-3 mark in conference matches. Most recently, the Pioneers played a midweek contest on Tuesday against Cal State Monterey Bay and lost the five-set match in heartbreaking fashion. They led 2-1 after the third set and were in position to close out the match, but CSUMB rallied to steal the victory.Â
Suzy Ni Xu led the team with 15 kills versus the Otters.
Amber Hall notched 12, while
Katie Allen and
Samantha Bruno tallied 11 kills each.
Veronica Sanchez led all players in the match with 19 digs. That actually lowered her season average to 5.68 digs per set, but she still leads the CCAA in the category.

TRACKING THE TOROS
Cal State Dominguez Hills was tabbed as one of the CCAA's top teams in the preseason, but they're still searching for their first conference win. The Toros have dropped five straight matches, including three in a row at home. Alijah Gunsaulus (3.41 kills/set), Whitney Lee (2.46 kills/set), and Abbey Prusa (2.32 kills/set) are the team's leading attackers. Setter Dana Brown is averaging 10.66 assists per set, which ranks fourth in the CCAA.
GAUGING THE GOLDEN EAGLES
Cal State L.A. is 3-2 in conference play and has posted the fourth-best team hitting percentage at .232 (the Pioneers are sixth at .219), but they have yet to record a victory at home this season. In order to continue that trend, East Bay will have to contend with Eagle attackers Kymberly Silveyra (3.21 kills/set, 3.00 digs/set) and Iona Lofrano, the CCAA's second-leading scorer at 4.09 kills per set.Â
