OAKLAND, Calif.
– The Cal State East Bay women's swim team repeated as champions at the Bay Area Invitational on Saturday at the Trefethen Aquatic Center. The Pioneers swept the meet winning all 14 events en route to the meet title.

"I was pleased to see some intense intra-squad racing today. Our sophomore milers, Rachel Shimizu and Hannah Cutts had a great back-and-forth battle in the (mile), while butterfly specialists Caitlin DeNise and Brittany Rojo matched stroke for stroke in the 100-yard butterfly," said East Bay Head Coach Ben Loorz.

"Senior Rachel Knowles was the team-designated swimmer of the meet, with standout performances in the 200 breast and 400 individual medley. This was a very good building meet for us, and it provided a lot of racing opportunities for everyone. We are looking forward to meeting close rival Cal Baptist in a couple weeks; that will be a true litmus test of how we are developing this season," Loorz said.

Cal State East Bay outlasted a field of four teams by scoring 711 points. UC Santa Cruz finished runner-up with 514. College of Idaho (497) and Mills (292) round out the field.

The next competition for Cal State East Bay will take place on Saturday, Nov. 2. The Pioneers will head to Southern California to take part in a double dual meet at Cal Baptist, against both the Lancers and the University of Redlands.
