OAKLAND, Calif. – Cal State East Bay won all 14 events en route to a 181-65 road win over Mills College on Friday afternoon at the Trefethen Aquatic Center. Freshman Madison Hauanio won three events and paced a cast of eight different Pioneers to notch an individual event win.

Hauanio was victorious in the 50-yard freestyle, 200-yard freestyle, and 200-yard backstroke. She was one of three multiple event winners including Caitlin DeNise and Brittany Rojo.

"We had an excellent early season performance today. At this type of meet we are looking for good racing and the application of technical growth," said fourth year Head Coach Ben Loorz. "I think we saw a good amount of this today, and expect to see more throughout the month."

The Pioneers finished 1-2-3 in all individual races in which they fielded at least three swimmers. It was competition between teammates which fueled several solid times and performances early in the season.

"We had some great intra-team racing today. Many people who were touched out by same-event rivals a week ago (at the Black-Red meet) reversed their fortune with some wins today," commented Loorz.  "This level of internal competition is something we strive to promote and is great in pushing ourselves moving forward."

Freshman Mariam Lowe notched her first official win as a collegiate swimmer in the 1,000 free. Her time of 10:41.90 is within 12 seconds of the program record.

Courtney Schwiesow (100 breast), Alyssa Tenney (200 back), Rachel Knowles (200 breast) and Hannah Cutts (500 free) also scored wins for the visiting Pioneers.

Cal State East Bay (1-0) will return to the Trefethen Aquatic Center in eight days to take part in the Bay Area Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 19, at 10 a.m.
