Pioneers Drop Doubleheader to Cal Poly Pomona

HAYWARD, Calif. –
The Pioneer baseball team dropped a doubleheader to Cal Poly Pomona on April 28. The scores were 5-0 and 6-3.

East Bay drops to 9-22 in CCAA play and 15-26 overall. Cal Poly Pomona improves to 22-17 in the CCAA and 30-18 for the season.

In the second game, the Pioneers took an early 2-0 lead with two runs in the bottom of the first inning.  Brett Hall had an infield single to open the inning, and scored on a Bronco error. Three batters later, Jordan Wilder doubled home Charlie Sharrer.

The Broncos got on the scoreboard with a run in the top of the third inning. 

East Bay extended its lead to 3-1 in the bottom of the fourth with an unearned run.

In the top of the fifth, Mike Santora had an RBI single, while Donald Walter doubled home a run, as the Broncos tied the game in the top of the fifth.

The Broncos took a 6-3 lead in the top of the sixth as Santora drove in two runs with a double. Santora later scored on a double by Walter.

Wilder was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with two doubles for the Pioneers.

In the first game, the Broncos broke a scoreless tie with four runs in the top of the third inning, highlighted by a pair of two run singles off the bats of Joseph Eusebio and Chris Miller.

The Pioneers, who stranded nine runners for the game, had a pair of runners left on base in the fourth, sixth and eighth innings.

Wilder had three hits, while reliever Xavier De La Cruz hurled three scoreless innings and recorded three strikeouts.

The four-game series will conclude on April 29 with an 11:00 single contest at Pioneer Field.
