HAYWARD, Calif. – Coming off a two-week Southern California road trip and a bye, the Pioneer baseball team returns home to take on Cal Poly Pomona in a four-game series on April 27-29. The series will begin on April 27 with a single game at 3:00 p.m.  An 11:00 a.m. doubleheader will take place on April 28.  The four-game series will conclude on April 29 with a single contest. The first pitch is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.

The Cal State East Bay baseball team will host a free mini baseball clinic for youth ages 5-13 on Sunday, April 29. The clinic will run from 9-10:30 a.m., with check in at 8:30 a.m.

Cal State East Bay baseball fans can follow the Pioneers on April 27 and April 29.  The games will be broadcast on the Pioneers Internet Network.

The Pioneers remain in 10th place in the CCAA with a 9-19 record. East Bay is 15-23 for the season. The Pioneers have won six of their last 10 games including two out of three CCAA road doubleheader sweeps.  East Bay is 9-0 this season when leading after eight innings.

Eddie Rettagliata and Kyle Zozaya are both batting .310 for the season. In his last eight games, Zozaya is hitting .419 with two home runs, eight RBIs, and a .677 slugging percentage. Andrew Woolfe, hitting .302 for the year, leads the Pioneers with 30 runs scored.   Jordan Wilder, hitting .385 in his last eight games, is batting .293 with a team-leading 24 RBI.  David Castillo has a .286 batting average. In his last five games, Castillo is hitting .414 with six runs scored and six RBI. Lead-off hitter Brett Hall has a .271 batting average with 23 runs scored and 10 doubles. Hall is currently on a nine-game hitting streak.                                                                                                                                                                    

Pitcher AJ Gallardo is 5-1 with a 2.33 ERA. In 46.1 innings of work, Gallardo has 36 strikeouts and 11 walks.  Bryce Miller has a staff-best 61 strikeouts.  Miller has 56 strikeouts in his last eight starts. Ben O'Bryan is 2-3 with a 2.47 ERA.

Cal Poly Pomona is seventh in the CCAA with a 19-17 record.  The Broncos are 27-18 for the season. Cal Poly Pomona took three out of four games over the Pioneers during the 2011 campaign. Joseph Eusebio and Donald Walter, batting .364 and .356 respectively, are the Broncos' leading hitters. Chris Miller has a team-best five home runs and 45 RBI. Geoff Broussard and Erick Ruvalcaba are two of the better pitchers in the CCAA. Broussard is 10-1 with a 1.43 ERA. He has recorded 74 strikeouts compared to 10 walks. Ruvalcaba is a perfect 6-0 with a 2.75 ERA.

Following the four-game series with Cal Poly Pomona, the Pioneers will host Cal State Los Angeles in a make-up doubleheader on April 30.
