Pioneers Drop Series Finale to Cal State Monterey Bay

HAYWARD, Calif. –
The Pioneer baseball team lost the finale of a four-game series to Cal State Monterey Bay by the score of 12-4 on April 2.

With the defeat, the Pioneers are 5-15 in CCAA play and 11-19 overall. Cal State Monterey Bay, which earned a split in the four-game series, improves to 10-14 in the CCAA and 17-17 for the season.

Charlie Sharrer had a pair of hits in five at bats for the Pioneers. Kyle Zozaya drove in his 13th run of the season. Pinch hitters Kenny Uyetake, Alex Anicich and Brad Rich all had base hits.

The Otters' David Garcia was 4-for-5 with a grand slam and five RBIs. Chris Lopiccolo and Nolan Murray each drove in a pair of runs.

East Bay tied the game in the bottom of the fourth inning. With one out, Andrew Woolfe singled and later scored on a base hit off the bat of Zozaya.

Cal State Monterey Bay broke the 1-1 tie with five runs in the top of the sixth and another run in the seventh.

The Pioneers cut the Otters' advantage to 6-3 with single runs in the bottom of the sixth and seventh innings.

Garcia hit a grand slam to highlight a five-run eighth inning for the Otters.

East Bay will travel to Carson, California to take on Cal State Dominguez Hills in a four-game series on April 5-7.
