TURLOCK, Calif. – The Pioneers pushed across a run in the top of the ninth inning to lead 2-1 only to see Cal State Stanislaus comeback with two runs in the bottom of the inning to stun the Pioneers 3-2 in a CCAA game on March 11. The victory enables the Warriors (6-6 CCAA, 9-9) to take the four-game series. East Bay is 3-9 in the CCAA and 9-13 overall. All four games in the series were decided by one run.
With one out in the top of the ninth,
Bryson Nakamura singled and Eric Rowen walked on four pitches.
Brett Hall struck out for the second out. The next batter,
Jordan Wilder, was safe on a throwing error enabling Nakamura to score and give the Pioneers a 2-1 lead.
The Warriors' Garrett Wright opened the bottom of the ninth with a single and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. After two outs, Colton Beatty singled home Wright to tie the game. Jordan Long walked and DJ Arellano followed with a base hit to score Beatty with the winning run.
Pioneer reliever
Ryan Devencenzi (1-2), who entered the game in the eighth inning, suffered the defeat.
The Pioneers scored the first run of the game in the second inning. With two outs, Nakamura singled and stole second. Rowen hit a single up the middle to score Nakamura.
Pioneer hurler
Brandyn Bell was sharp in the early going as he held the Warriors scoreless for the three innings. Bell allowed one run on six hits in seven innings of work. He recorded six strikeouts and five walks while throwing 119 pitches.
The Pioneers loaded the bases in the fourth inning, but were unable to extend their lead.
Cal State Stanislaus tied the game in the bottom of the fourth as Justin Manci doubled and scored on an Eli Davis triple.
The Pioneers banged out 11 hits. Nakamura was 3-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored. Wilder and
David Castillo each had two hits.
Andrew Woolfe was safe on a fielder's choice and has now reached base in 21 straight games.
East Bay will host Cal State Los Angeles in a four-game series on March 16-18.
