LA MIRADA, Calif.- The Pioneer women's swim team broke four more school records and continues to impress their competition following the third day of the Pacific Collegiate Swimming Conference Championships on February 10.
The Pioneers stand in sixth place following the third day of competition.
The most dominant East Bay performance came at the end of the evening in the 400-yd. Medley Relay. Four East Bay individual-record holders combined for a stunning five-second drop from the previous team record.
Bethany Hoopman,
Rachel Knowles,
Alyssa Tenney, and
Jenel Lopez combined to swim backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, and freestyle (respectively). Their new school record of 3:57.77 earned 4th place in the event.
In the 200-yd. Freestyle, Lopez broke a school record. Her 1:53.34 in the prelims clipped the old record by three tenths. Lopez re-broke the record at night, swimming a 1:53.15 to earn East Bay's first “hardware” of the meet, the bronze medal. Teammate
Sara Bonino joined Lopez in the top-8 (1:56.51, 8th), and
Jenni Perez went a PB to earn 22nd (2:01.27).
The 100-yd. Breaststroke showcased three East Bay swimmers who were all able to improve their prelims times in the final heats of the evening. The new team record in this event belonged to Knowles, who took her 1:06.93 from the morning, shaved one tenth off the first half of the race, three tenths off the last half of the race, and nipped the 1982 standard in a 1:06.51.
Stephanie Lau dropped over a second from the morning to earn her first East Bay points, 22nd place with a 1:11.14.
Jasmine Stowers also got the job done, swimming a 1:12.74 for 28th place.
In the 100 Yard Backstroke, Hoopman set a school-record as she popped off a 58.43 in the morning prelim swim. Freshman
Alyssa Tenney also had a great prelim swim, 59.26. Hoopman and Tenney earned 7th and 8th, respectively, in the Finals. Senior Captain
Christine Gee had a great PB in the morning, dropped her time again at night, and swam to 26th place (1:03.26).
The day started with the 100-yd. Butterfly, with freshman
Madelyn Mooers earning 11th place by dropping her morning PB of 1:00.77 down to a 1:00.36.
The championships will conclude on February 11 beginning with the 200 Yard Backstroke at 9:00 a.m.
