SAN JOSE, Calif. – The Pioneer women's swim team had some good individual performances against San Jose State on January 13. San Jose State won the dual meet, 137-81.
“Many of the athletes swam comparable times to what they performed at the Finis Invite back in December,” Pioneer coach
Ben Loorz said. “To equal times from an indoor trials-finals meet here, at an afternoon dual meet, is a very strong indicator that the team is physically and mentally getting ready for Conference.”
Jenel Lopez was narrowly beaten in the 200 Yard Free as she posted a time of 1:55.85. Lopez clocked a time of 24.99 to take fourth in the 50 Yard Free.
Sara Bonino posted her second fastest time of the season of 10:39.80 to earn second place honors in the 1000 Yard Free. Bonino was fifth in the 100 Yard Free in 55.46.
Rachel Knowles recorded a time of 1:10.51 to finish second in the 100 Yard Breastroke.
Jenni Perez had a good meet taking second in the 500 Yard Freestyle in 5:31.70 and fifth in the 200 Yard Freestyle with a time of 2:04.95.
Alyssa Tenney scored 19 points for the Pioneers in the 200 Yard Backstroke, 200 IM and 100 Yard Backstroke.
Madelyn Mooers accounted for 10 points in the 100 and 200 Yard Fly.
The foursome of Tenney,
Stephanie Lau, Mooers and
Jasmine Stowers finished second in the 200 Yard Medley Relay in 1:58.49.
“The overall shape of the swimming season is that of an arc: the middle of the season contains a very heavy workload that can make competition challenging,” Loorz said. “As we begin to ride the backside of that arc, we should see improving performances from now until Conference.”
The Pioneers will travel to Fresno on January 14 to face Fresno State and Cal State Bakersfield. The first event is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
