East Bay Defeated in Series Finale at Cal Poly Pomona

POMONA, Calif. -
The Pioneer baseball team lost to Cal Poly Pomona by the score of 9-3 on April 3.

Cal Poly Pomona, which took three out of four games in the series, is 13-11 in CCAA play and 19-11 overall.

East Bay is 7-19 in the CCAA and 9-24 for the season.

The Pioneers banged out 10 hits, but left 11 runners on base.

The Broncos scored single runs in first and fourth innings to grab a 2-0 lead. Travis Taijeron gave the Broncos a 5-0 advantage with a 3-run double in the fifth.

The Pioneers got on the scoreboard in the sixth inning as Chris Houston singled to drive in Charlie Sharrer. Nick McManus doubled to open the top of the eighth and later scored on a base hit by Lincoln Clapper.

Chris Miller had a two-run double as Cal Poly Pomona scored four runs in the bottom of the eighth.

East Bay scored its final run in the ninth inning.

Scott Shields was 3-for-4 at the plate with a run scored for the Pioneers. McManus had a pair of hits to raise his team leading batting average to .328.

Pioneer starting pitcher Bryce Miller allowed only one earned run in six innings of work.

The Pioneers will host Cal State Dominguez Hills in a four-game series beginning on April 8.
